Set design

Draft 3
This is another draft that we did but this time we added the two squares which are meant to be tables and we added the host which is Hussein. This is a old draft because before Hussein was the original TV host for our game show but then Leutrim the director wanted him to have another job role which was to be floor manger. The TV host was changed to Aaingel Nathan.

Set design

Draft 2
This is another set design that we thought it could potentially look like and we added the game show logo.

Post Prodution

Leutrim was the editor for TV game show and he edited it with Maria in the Mac room. I think it was edited really well considering we had only few days left before posting it on you tube and showing it to everyone in the class.

Production

Our TV game show
This is the actual TV game show that we filmed in early February on our production day.

App design
This is the app design that leutrim designed for our game show. I think he did a good job on it because its quite basic and straightforward and he used the right colour scheme and he kept the logo which will represent our game show. I do think that maybe he could add more pages of different activities but overall it looks great.

Website design
This is the website design that Maria has made and i think she did good on it but i do think she could of added more links to it so people can click on a 'home page' or 'about us page' to make it more realistic. Also i feel that there's not that much information maybe she could of added a small mini game since its a TV game show. Overall i think she did well on it, the colours represent 'double trouble' and the pictures are fun and bubbly just like our game show.

Equipment setup for the game show
During some rehearsals and the real filming of game show we had a ton of filming equipment's to prepare. Here are some photos of them down below:

Communication station:
Here is where the director uses his headphones and microphone to communicate with the camera people.

Lighting station:
Here is where you control lights on high or low you want them.

Vision mixer area:
In vision mixer you can see the camera point of view in different angles by pressing the buttons, to see which angle you'd like.

Camera setups:
Here are photos of the camera's that are being set up for the camera crew and the technician is showing and telling them on how to use them and how to set them up.

Sound:
Down here is the sound set up which i think is probably the hardest job role to do. Because it was kinda tricky we had to use one other member from the other group to help our member in our group on it so it can run smoothly because i don't think just one person could do this job.

Props:
We had our original contestants dressed in costumes, but then sadly we had to ditch them because one of them felt ill the day before the actual shooting the production and we had to find other people who wouldn't mid being contestants and when we found one of them couldn't fit in the costume so we thought there's no point of having them because there all meant to wear one. I think it would of been more funny if they had the costumes because our game show was meant to have comedy, but overall it did go really well.

Evaluation

From this whole experience i have learned and gained a good understanding about how to produce a TV game show.

In the beginning of the preparation of the game show we had to pitch our ideas to the class, you could of done it alone or with somebody. I done it with Lisa and we came up with the idea of 'star power' and it was about

During this time we were put into groups and i was in a group of 8 who was me, Rade, Jamie, Lisa, Maria, Ilyas, Leutrim and Hussein. We all had different roles to do like i was doing the set design and being the vision mixer, Rade was camera woman. Jamie was cameraman, Lisa was camera woman, Maria was sound. Leutrim was director and editor and Hussein was floor manager and he also was supposed to be the TV host but that got changed later on. I liked my role because being a vision mixer is really easy and i also liked doing the set design and preparing it all.

We often had group meetings to discuss what were gonna do, and we had lots of rehearsals in the studio room. We would set up everything like the camera's and the lights and sound. Also i would set up the vision mixer and test it on the screen. The rehearsals that we first had was when we had no props but just chairs and tables. Hussein was our TV host at that time and the contestants were people from our own group until we got other people to fill in. We would go through the script and they would act it out in front of us. Leutrim thought that maybe Hussein shouldn't be the TV presenter as he thought he would be better of being the floor manager. So he decided to get Aaingel to be the TV host.

After a couple of weeks me and Lisa were searching up on how to make the set design. We did some research online and we used Photoshop to design it and to get an idea of how the set will look like. We came to the conclusion of what the set design will look like so we drew it out on A3 paper and we were searching for materials for it. Sally came and helped us with getting the materials and she showed us where to get it from, and Damon came with us. He gave us suggestions like the two poles and we carried it to the studio room, while that was there me, Lisa and Rade got cardboard and we painted them pink and blue and we then stuck them on the two poles. We then wanted to make a banner that says 'double trouble' but we didn't have time so we just used long black string and put flyers on the string and we used pink and blue ribbons on it to represent double trouble. We then set everything up like the tables with the activities on and we had a rehearsal with the actual stuff.

The next day it was our actual shooting day and i was a bit nervous because i didn't want anything to go wrong. Some things did go wrong as some of the contestants backed out so we had to find other people to fill in. Luckily we found people to fill in and we then started to shoot the actual TV game show and i was on the vision mixer. I press the button when the director tells me to do it and that was Leutrim and the buttons change to different camera views. We shot the game show a lot of times because there was some mistakes in the beginning but we finally got through with it. In terms of audio it was good because the contestants and the host spoke clearly and loudly into the mic so the sound picked it up well. The visual was good when i watched it back it was a bit fuzzy on some of the camera's but overall it was good. The interactive elements were good the contestants interacted well and they used the props well because the audience can see them clearly. When we finished filming it was a wrap and we were so happy that we finally finished the whole production bit after a lot of rehearsals and hard work before like trying to get the set design. After we finished we tided up the whole filming equipment and put down the set design and just cleared everything up, we decided to take a group photo together.

CASE STUDY

Using secondary and primary research explore two game/quiz shows of your own choice

The first game show that is historic that I chose was “The price is right” and the contemporary one I chose was “The cube”.

Bruce price is right is a British game show, showing from 1995-2001. It was actually based on the US version of the same name “The price is right” (1972-2007). It was first aired on ITV. The show is about contestants that compete against each other for prizes by trying to guess the correct prices of consumer goods.

The host is of the show was Bruce Forsyth and the producers were Jim Brown and Howard Hunt ridge. The format of this show is from the classic US “Price is right” because it has the same name. Also France has their own version too called “Le Juste Prix”. The set is quite big and spacious because it has prizes around and activities to do in order to win the final prize. The audience is spread across the room into two parts and the presenter is facing towards them. I think the demographics of this show are towards all races that British and, the age i think is for 25 and over, because there are a lot of elderly people in the audience.

Bruce price is right starts off with a classy intro, full of cartoons and mini videos of past contestants playing in the game. There is a background voice explaining about the game show and he says the title of it. Then its a different shot and the camera goes to Bruce coming out of the opening doors and posing for the camera. That just shows Bruce personality, we all know hes a chilled laid back guy so that can make the audience more comfortable and have more fun. The background music is soft, slow and light hearted so that makes the show look more relaxed. The audience is very happy and cheerful when Bruce is talking to them or telling a joke to them, also when Bruce calls a contestant down, that's when they cheer more.

In terms of Richard Dyer theory he is right for transparency for this show. Its very easy to understands what this show is about and its straightforward. Audience like to see what the contestants will get from playing a game show, so in this show you win prizes from what activity you completed. The host "Bruce Forsynth" creates a sense of community with everyone because he is very friendly with the contestant and he involves everyone in the audience, this can involve people watching it at home. There is a lot of good energy in the show because its so light hearted and fun, and that can attract people to watch it. The intensity of this show is kind of soft because it only gets intense when they get to the last question.

The cube is a British game show from 2009-present and was first aired on ITV. The show is about testing the contestant’s ability, nerve and determination to win. The Cube is still present today on the T.V and they continue to challenge members of the public to attempt deceivingly simple tasks in a giant cube. Once inside, there is nowhere to hide, as their entire journey is captured from all angles by over 90 slow motion and game freeze cameras. If they complete a series of challenges, they get a chance to win up to £250,000.

The host of the show is Phillip Schofield and the producers are Adam Adler, Andrew Newman, Nathan Eastwood, Andrew O’Connor and Annabel Raftery. The format has been successful with international broadcasters, as of 2015 eleven countries have produced their own versions of the show. The set looks like it’s in a miniature arena, with the audience on three sides looking down slightly on proceedings. I think the demographics of this show are towards all races that are British and, the age I think is for 15 and over.

The cube starts with the presenter standing with a contestant and then it goes on to a different shot of other contestants competing. While this is happening there is a man speaking in the background explaining what happens when you play the cube. It also shows the audience reactions and their expressions. The presenter also shows some facial expressions and he also says a memorable quote such as “what do you have, what it takes to beat the cube”. This can be effective because it’s kind of like a question to try and challenge you and they would want a response from you. When the presenter says that the camera zooms out from him and it’s a long shot. You can see the audience behind him and on both sides clapping and cheering. The music is fast and upbeat which can create tension because that is what the cube is about, they want the audience to feel like they are playing

the game when they are watching the contestants.

In terms of Richard Dyer theory the transparency of this show is fairly easy to understand as there is a lot going on. The abundance of this show is that you can have knowledge, so you can learn something from the contestants when they are playing. I don't think this show creates a sense of community because everyone is all after the money or prize and this has a more intense and serious atmosphere. The energy is good in this show because the audience are shouting and trying to help the contestant when they are playing in the cube. There is a lot of intensity in this show as this is more of a serious game and when people play in the cube you can see the audience reaction and they look intense.

Comparing the both shows
In comparison of both game shows they are both similar but very different in a way. In terms of technology, both shows have changed dramatically over the years. Bruce price is right show, the camera is not that H.D or crisp it has this foggy looking style. The sound is also not that great,it just sounds like a typical old T.V show. It's also quiet when Bruce is talking, there's no back-round music.
Also you just hear the audience cheering and clapping in the distance like an echo. The cube show technology has improved so much,The quality is more H.D looking and it's clear and crisp. The sound is clearer in this show to hear because you can hear every detail in the back-round.The set in the Bruce price is right has very bright colors to it and has a lot of flashing lights around. It's also very colorful and that sets the mood of the whole show that its light hearted, fun and bubbly. Compare to the cube, the set is dark and gloomy. It has red flashing lights and the mood for this show is more serious and intense. Its like this because they want the audience to feel tension and to be jumping of their seats. The hosts are different in both game shows, Bruce Forsyth is relaxed with his audience and hes dancing around and telling jokes. He wants to bring positive chilled energy to everyone. The host in the cube is more serious and more professional because they want the audience to know that is a serious game.

Floor Plan

This is the floor plan that we all made in Sally's lesson. Three of us from each group had a job to do, we had to go down to the studio room and one of us had to take pictures of the things that cant be moved in the room e.g the projector. One of us had to measure the floor and the other one had to record it on paper. I was one of the people who had to take pictures, so i took lots of pictures of the things that couldn't be moved like the white board and the light switches.

When we finished doing all of that, we went back to sally's room and we then recorded the measurements into the floor plan that we each had to draw out. This floor plan shows us the whole studios floor and where the doors are and from here we can see what changes we can do or where we can build the set design.
